On a five-day conference from the 4th until the 8th of September, we had an amazing chance to participate in the ECPR General Conference at Charles University!
The event counted with an extensive program of about 60 sections covering the full breadth of political science and over 400 panels offering an engaging platform for discussion and debate! We had the chance to participate in panel sessions, featured roundtables, scholarly publishing sessions, a keynote lecture, and an expo. With a broad focus, the conference covered the main areas of political science, political theory, international relations, and European studies.
Some of our team members had the opportunity to take part in the conference:
- Daniel Thiele (Free University of Berlin) chaired the section “Political Communication in the Digital Age” together with Sophie Minihold (University of Vienna). Moreover, Daniel also served as chair of the panel “Advancing Research Designs and Methods in Political Communication”.
- Daniel Thiele presented the paper “Coordinated (in)authentic behavior online: A systematic review and typology”, in which he and Miriam Milzner, Annett Heft, Baoning Gong, and Barbara Pfetsch (all Free University of Berlin/Weizenbaum Institute) review the literature on, and advance our theoretical understanding of coordinated social media manipulation.
- Xixuan Zhang (Free University of Berlin/Weizenbaum Institute) presented under the title “The curse of dimensionality of comparative data collection across platforms and time – Challenges and approaches” where she tackles the challenges and approaches for data collection in multidimensional comparative studies on political contention across different platforms, on which she is currently working together with Annett Heft, Miriam Milzner (both Free University of Berlin/Weizenbaum Institute), Kilian Buehling ( Free University of Berlin), and Dominik Schindler (Imperial College London).
Moreover, with the headline events and networking opportunities, we were allowed to take part in inspiring conversations and make new connections with scholars across all regional and national borders!
