From March 13th to 15th the University of Erfurt hosted the 69. Annual Conference of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK). This year’s theme, “Visions for a Better Life,” aimed to stimulate a debate on the social relevance and future of communication science research. By exploring the roles that communication and media can play in shaping the individual, institutional, and, social implementations of various aspects of a good life.
Dr. Kilian Buehling from Freie Universität and Weizenbaum Institut, Berlin, showcased the Querdenken Telegram Dataset 2020 – 2022, gathered in collaboration with Heidi Schulze and Maximilian Zehring and dicussed the challenges of social media dataset publications. The dataset comprises public messages from 390 channels and discussion groups associated with the Querdenken movement, alongside 611 channels and groups linked to the COVID-19 protest movements. The dataset offers a longitudinal representation of these movements and their networks. The data collection strategy was implemented at various intervals, minimizing the risk of data loss due to deletions, thereby enriching the historical value of the dataset. Furthermore, the authors meticulously documented digital behavioral data, detailed in a comprehensive codebook, and introduced additional variables for further analysis.
We thank the University of Erfurt for organizing the event and look forward to future collaborations!
